The Gedi Group sells another piece. The dismantling of the editorial battleship wanted by Carlo Caracciolo is almost complete. A preliminary agreement was signed with the Athesis Group (Arena di Verona, Giornale di Vicenza and Brescia Oggi) for the sale of the Gazzetta di Mantova, with related digital activity and advertising sales. It is expected that the sale will be completed by November 2023. The Editorial Committee of the Gazzetta di Mantova states in a statement that the sale "represents a crucial moment for the future of our newspaper and, consequently, for the work of the journalists and all the staff who contribute every day to guaranteeing the editorial quality of this newspaper, the oldest in Italy.
We invite all parties involved in the DY Leads negotiation, Gedi and Athesis, to take into adequate consideration the importance of protecting employment, editorial heritage and the value of the professionals who work in the editorial staff of the Gazzetta di Mantova. We are aware that this transition period could present challenges, but we are confident that, by working together with a serious, consolidated editorial group with great local experience close to our reality, we can reach a fair and balanced solution that safeguards jobs, the values and centenary heritage of our newspaper. And, above all, the foundations can be laid for a future in which the Gazzetta di Mantua is still central in the life of the community which it has been reporting continuously since 1664".
The Gedi Group was acquired by John Elkann's Exor at the end of 2019. In October 2020 the group announced the agreement for the sale of the local newspapers Il Tirreno, La Gazzetta di Modena, la Gazzetta di Reggio and Nuova Ferrara to Sae Group, represented by the Abruzzo entrepreneur Alberto Leonardis. In December 2020, Gedi announced the cessation of publication of the bimonthly magazine Micromega. In November 2021, La Nuova Sardegna was also sold to Sae . In March 2022 Gedi sold the weekly L'Espresso to Bfc Media, which is headed by the Campania entrepreneur Danilo Iervolino, already owner of the Pegaso telematic University.
